Double Bucket Of Sads: Ethel Ennis & Stanley Donen

Sometimes we get hit in the kisser twice.

That was the case this past week, when we lost a most ravishing vocalist, Ethel Ennis, and a premiere movie musical director (and former hoofer), Stanley Donen.

One of Ethel's best LPs, 1957's "Change Of Scenery," highlights her singularly elegant, golden-smooth vocals. She may have walked out on showbiz just as she was starting - to the shock and sore disappointment of many - but this only served to burnish her already well-deserved renown.

As for Stanley, we all know "Singin' In The Rain," but have you listened to 1957's "Funny Face" lately? It's well worth the listen, especially for Kay Thompson's "Think Pink," a memorable camp nugget which has inspired many a drag queen performer for decades (and for good reason).
